Un-be-lievable ! The very cheek of some people!

It all makes me feel so sick,
I can't understand how somebody could do such a thing.

UGH. Why is everyone ripping everyone else these days? Is the weather? Or the air?

I'm so sorry to hear about this. For what it's worth, his work doesn't even compare to yours -- not by a long shot.

little t jane said...

oh my stomach hurts. that is beyond a flattering "inspiration." yikes. i'm so sorry, too, and agree that the work does not compare to yours by a long shot.

my word verification is "ducheati." quite fitting, eh? do shitty or douche-itty! ;D

Kate said...

That's so horrible. And to the nerve to say, "inspired" by your work - outrageous.

I'm so sorry that this had to happen to you, Rob.

Beck said...

deathcuts eh... i'm surprised he's not recieving death threats for being making such pathetic rip-offs. I can't believe the gall of some people, really just such pitifully bad manners. Complete Fool.

Anonymous said...

what cheek this is.
i am all for a little bit of inspiration, but this is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS.

and i totally agree - it's not a patch on yours.

LittleDoodles said...

ugh, this makes me so sad. Not just for you but for other peoples complete lack of imagination and originality. Just remember yours are highly superior...definitely not a patch on yours!

Hayley Potter said...

Disgraceful behaviour...the work they have produced shows absolutely no sign of originality, just a very poor imitation of your wonderful designs.

So sorry to see this, I hope they are very embarrassed that you have put their 'versions' on your blog!

cardigan kate said...

Outrageous! shame on him, I cannot believe how he has the nerve. I checked out his other work and he has also had a go at 'Banksy' lookie-likies. I wonder who will be next?

I'm sure you must be really annoyed, but in some ways it is quite funny as they are SO SO bad.

I really hope he reads all of these comments you have had and hangs his head in shame.

miss b said...

Isn't it funny how he mentions you as an 'inspiration'.

If you read the biog they say they are an 'art viruoso', is this a euphemism for something ;)

Little Annzo said...

As much as he tries to imitate you it's funny how easily recognizable his stuff is as just pure fakery. His work doesn't have an ounce of the soul yours does.

yumptatious said...

That is just disgusting! Its not 'inspired', its xeroxed!
I am furious on your behalf, for what its worth, typing this whilst bedecked in my wonderful Clothkits skirt designed by your good self.

Cara said...

How sad this is :(

Your work speaks volumes, and sadly so do the imitations - though not in the same way.

The pictures on the facebook site are personal ones which have not been sold, or advertised as for sale. The artist only discovered paper cutting as a new direction in his work barely 2 months ago. He happened to come across Robs work, and like everyone on here adored it and was blown away by his talent, and tried his own hand at cutting himself. Rob's work has inspired a lot of people to get papercutting. I myself have a cutting that I DID. Im holding it in one of the pictures featured. Are you going to invade MY facebook page and flood my wall too?

Anonymous said...

looking at deathhouses work....there is talent there to cut like that! and from what i can find out..he dosnt even sell his cuttings! its just his hobby! amazing!

Anonymous said...

i agree..looking at the work being compared...

and if you look at robs work - has no one said that robs work is a ripp off? do some research i say!

i am a paper cutter myself - and i think you can see that there is some skill there!

and if he does not sell them?..whats the problem?

rob said...

i checked his work out

his paintings are real good!

and so are his cuttings! rnt we all a bit quick to judge?

has anyone spoke to deathouse? you should get his point of view, if he is not making any money but doing it for fun as a hobby why are we leaving such poor remarks.

emma said...

i have been to the deathhouse shop where i had a custom canvas hand painted of me and my friends.its stunning and takes pride of place in my house. as for the rob ryan cuttings the work in his shop is nothing like robs! and like the other comment here..people should remember where mr ryan himself got his inspiration!

keep up the good work deathhouse!

mr mr said...

people are quick to judge these days-rather than take the time to find out the other side of the story,

i have looked at te deathouse and have had a lovely email back from him! i think before anyone fuels these comments we should take the time to speak to him

i really like his work

brody dull said...

his work is amazing! thanks for pointing me his way!

sara said...

deathouse has posted a link to this page.. so i thought i would leave a comment for him

i find it hard to read all the comments left, deathhouse did a cutting for me of a heart for my mum with our poem cut inside,it was amazing and made my mum cry

i love his work and robs

deathouse has his own style and the work posted on this page is so old and outdated i remember him having the rob book at home and he would just cut things for people to practice
his work makes people so happy

thankyou deathhouse

i have my own deathouse and its amazing

check out his work

Anonymous said...

i am in contact with deathhouse and the work posted on this page is from his own personal page,
he has not sold any of the bits shown and even some of them are not cut by deathhouse.
people should do some research before uploading work from his page.

i think its a same how people have responded.

Anonymous said...

this makes me so sad
rob is amazing
seriously
i don't think you realise how insulting and ignorant you are being, to someone so caring and passionate and who puts their OWN emotions into their work, and most importantly devoted to it.
xx

Anonymous said...

and as for saying robs work is a rip off
purlease, that is actually a physically disgusting thing to even suggest.

BENNY said...

YEAH THE WORK ON HERE ISNT ADVERTISED FOR SALE OR CLAIMING TO BE ROB RYAN THE BITS ARE INDEED FROM HIS OWN PERSONAL PAGE AND HOW THEY ENDED UP ON HERE IS A JOKE

WHO POSTED THIS BLOG UP? THEY SHOULD GET OUT MORE!

AND DID THEY HAVE PERMISSION TO UPLOAD SOMEONE ELSES PERSONAL PHOTOS?

Honestyisthebestpolicy said...

If you noticed this is rob's blog so he/team are intitled to post what they want. If you are influenced by someone then you 'cite' them .... using published words means you HAVE to declare this otherwise you are plagerising. He may/may not be selling these but IS passing off work/words as his own.
If Apologetic he should quote (like he has done wirh oasis & michael buble??) and tag the pics. ie " all words from rob ryan...etc" . I'm glad deathcuts have linked to Rob's site now to show the originals and inspiration.

He should sort out his facebook pics and learn a little with tagging. Lets see some more of his work, and other styles on facebook .. i'm only seeing rob's work poorly copied.

Also now that deathcuts group is closed no one can see these works anymore...funny that - those for sale signs being taken down?

Also with the permisions thing on facebook....deathcuts were quoted were they not.

yes very interesting how the for sale sign have vanished on aasen's page. I distinctly saw for sale on each one- and i think that all the pro aasen comments on this page are written by the weasel himself as well.

but the for sale sign is not the point

they are insinsere, dishonest sly pieces of crap aasen is a total asshole.

ROB RYANS WORK IS A JUBILANT EXPLORATION OF HIS TALENT AND DEDICATION TO HIS CRAFT.
HE IS AN EXCEPTIONALY TALENTED ARTIST AND CRAFTSMAN

if aasen thinks that a few shitty rip off's can hold up to 30 years of dedication, love and talent then let him try.

SomePeopleHaveTooMuchTime said...

Cornelia your choice of language is the only offensive and disgusting thing on this site....

Honestyisthebestpolicy said...

Somepeoplehave.. laungauge is gaged on reaction of someones appreciation of Rob's work being copied/plagerised. Something you can't defend i notice on here, and as you seem to have done the same i can't expect you to.

The fact that Mr craftycopycuts hasn't responded and shut of his group draws a big guilty sign non?

Also if these are supposed to be 'influenced'/practice copies.. and not for sale why use facebook to display work for his business. He hasn't a website so must have been using facebook to tout trade...and for sale signs were there. In fact i recall comments for orders of said 'work' from others duped.

In all fairness those who support deeathcuts actions can only go so far. Rob's been working on his unique style and words for longer, to do an X factor copy shows for what it is.

You can sing along but not sing with soul.

Lets see Deathcuts Open up again, if they have nothing to hide.

Alys Paterson said...

Evidently this rip off merchant obviously does not have a single original thought, shread of decency or ounce of talent. How somebody can resort to leeching every idea, every word and every detail from an infinately superior craftsman and wordsmith is beyond me?! This makes me so ANGRY!!

Billy said...

hi Rob,

Maybe you can take it as a compliment, like when rappers sing someone else´s verses.

It´s a shame, but just be happy - it doesn´t deserve too much attention. It´s a sign you have reached a point where people admire you! :)

Have a good week!

Lisa said...

You can't say this is "inspiration" or "flattery".
Copying is copying!
At least change the words or image!
No matter how "good" deathcuts is, he's still blatently ripping off someone else's image/work.

Bethany said...

The good news is that really, no one can truly copy your work... it's quite obvious which is really yours. You are talented. The copy-ers of the world are just not that good.

Hi

I would like to contact Rob Ryan for a commission. Can't seem to find any email direct.

Mr Rob, if you read this, could you email me at anne@artisanduchocolat.com or call me on 08452706696 (opt1)

Thanks and love your work

Rotter, scoundral and half baked half wit. He didn't think you'd notice? Sorry for you Rob, i find your work so inspiring and innovative, we all love you for that extra ounce of spice you add to our lives. This chap took a kilo!

Anonymous said...

Rob you've got to post these on

http://youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/

It's a great "name and shame" artist website...

Penny Nickels said...

Gag! I'm so sick of this stealing bullshit.

Anonymous said...

Shameful... be inspired by an artist by all means.. but to blatantly rip off someone elses wonderful and original work is just plain shabby. Take him/her to the cleaners Rob.... this shoite is not a patch on your wonderful work ( which I have lots of.....)

Anonymous said...

this is hillarious. why copy something if ur not even gonna do a good job of it. Its like a childs copy.

Loving your work always

Anna

Nora Daly said...

Your work is quite pretty and while the quotes are far too pedestrian for my tastes, you seem to have made quite a successful venture out of your art. The claim you imply in this post, that what you are producing stands alone in influence and originality, is an unfortunate example of how true artistry is dying if not already dead. Our cultural expansion is being strangled by artists willingly engaging in a copyright and profiteering wars. I prefer that world with "the artist as a craftsman who transmitted ideas that belonged to a common
culture" where the "artist stands in heroic opposition to the drive for profit". http://subsol.c3.hu/subsol_2/contributors0/nimustext.html

Suzy Taylor said...

It's amazing the reaction that this posting has attracted. Personally, I think if you're an artist, you can't help being inspired by people you admire. It's a natural way to learn something new by copying at the beginning - as long as you're not passing it off as original and give credit where credit is due, then I don't see a problem. My papercuttings are "influenced" by other papercutters as well as other artists and I mention their work, and I haven't even copied them. Chill out everyone.

i'd go straight to the 'report infringement of copyright' link on the group page:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56146812343#/copyright.php?type=1&cid=56146812343&cid2=0&cid3=0&uid=0&h=31c97368c9

it's a blatant rip off.

Hillier said...

Hey Rob, love your work mate. Do you have any advice about this sort of thing as it seems my stuff (www.danhillier.com) is about to get ripped off quite directly by a big high street chain soon...
Any tips would be much appreciated.
Thanks very much,

For goodness sake, why is everyone so quick to condemn people because of some pieces of paper. Andy Warhol wasn't prosecuted by Campbell's was he? As far as I am aware I don't believe Rob Ryan- as talented as he is, which I am not denying- owns the rights to words such as "I'm Thinking of You." Aasen is an amazing guy who is really talented, I have one of his canvasses that he gave me, it's of Audrey Hepburn created using a photo of her, so if that is not plagiarism, then this isn't either. And if as everyone insists that Rob's work is better then it is not the same is it? Plus Deathouse/Deathcuts works on commission now, he does what you want. Art is art, it's objective and subjective, and not always fair or ethical.

TwinSpin said...

can you sue them? Book by it's Cover blog had some interesting art + copyright law info on it recently from a similar issue with another artist.

YOu are just too awesome though that people cannot better this work, they copy it! twats.

Anonymous said...

To point out to anyone who is claiming that it is fine to copy for personal work, if he is an artist then why does he need to. Taking someones imagery is bad enough but taking the words which rob personally writes is not right at all. This bloke is putting photos up to gain popularity for his papercut work and is after praise using copies of someon elses work. WRONG no two ways about it.

Ironically, I stumbled upon this while looking at Rob's work for an inspiration to make a valentine's gift. As a college kid who can not spend ridiculous amounts of money on a screenprint, I like to make my own things when I think something is beautiful but I cannot buy it. My work is almost always inspired by someone else's but I do not consider it a disgusting heartless plagiarism. I put a lot of time, effort, and thought into it and I think my friends are more touched by me putting in the effort to make something than they would be by me spending hundreds of dollars to have an established artist do it. I understand that in order to keep inspiring us rob needs to make a living, but he still makes sales and gets commissioned for work. I think telling people they can't create things because they're too similar to someone else's work is cruel and closed minded, and I think anyone who creates ANYTHING should be able to feel proud of themselves for their effort.
