Recipe for Disaster......Having a sort out through a load of old stuff this weekend my wife found this collection of rambling drivel in one of her old recipe books. It was written 19 years ago when I was out of college a few years and by the look of things I was having a bit of soul searching about what this whole 'art' thing was about.I had a young family and was worried about money (and the lack of it)and our future prospects (and the lack of them) It's funny but I guess I would say the same sort of thing now !

wow, thanks for posting this up. it's memorable and inspirational. i hope to come across my old diary entries many years from now too..
What a treasure. I can't quite find the words . . . such a personal thing you've posted and I don't want to impose. What struck me, though, is the defiance in that 28 year old artist. So raw and compelling and funny and thought-provoking. Thanks for sharing it.
Familiar ramblings! - I too left the Royal College & have to balance work, parenthood & wondering if you're doing the right thing. It made me smile reading it from someone else! Definitely not "stoopid" though... stoopid would be doing the 9 to 5 thing. I'd rather be poor and free!
oh yes, thank you for posting. It's encouraging to know other people have the same wobbles and come out the other side.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.
this is why i admire artists so much! you're an inspiration! i found my balance in a three day a week job, otherwise i would go insane! rather having less money and a little bit of freedom to do whatever i want... that's it freedom! you made my day!

Love this post, I kept those things that are memorable to me too! It's really encouraging knowing i'm not the only one who has the same feeling...! Thanks x
i luv you! it's exactly how i feel at times, but dont have the courage to choose the free path that i really want.
it's good to know that someone as brilliant as you has these doubts too..

Thanks so much for sharing this. "I'd rather be poor and free!" - is something I've always said to myself whenever I'm having a bad day. It's great to hear that other artists feel the same way- especially when the whole world seems to rotate around money.
It just goes so show how we all loose a little faith from time to time. I go through periods of wondering what it's all about too. It's how we get a perspective on things I suppose.
Thanks for sharing.
I love these pages.. thank you for sharing them with us!
It is incredibly reassuring to know that out there is someone else who sits and writes down this sort of thing.... after all you're a proper famous artist/designer person who has 'made it', so you must be sane and if you can write stuff like this then..... well I can't be as mad as I often think I am!
(wouldn't it be interesting to know what items have been purloined by art students over the vast history of art students 'borrowing' items!?)
heres to many more years of the stoopid testament ....yes !! bring it on
thanks for sharing your honesty rob ....do you know how many people you inspire :)
How wonderful! Laughed out loud at every stoopid!
Thank you stoopidly,
Ola & Robina
Ps, you rock!!
cool post - I like it when people put personal stuff out there, even on design and art blogs
And AMEN BROTHER!
