I have agreed to do 6 monthly illustrations for Waitrose food magazine to go with Sophie Dahl's Column. She is a wonderful natural writer who seems to with great ease conjure up wonderful moods of smell and sensation in words. It is quite a challenge to try and keep up with her in image form. I hope I somehow manage to do her writing justice.

This blog is pretty much 'all about ME!', but sometimes something comes along so brilliant that it distracts even someone as totally self obsessed as I am. My lady Lorna has taken a step sideways from creating beautiful denim bears to making the most fantastic corduroy daschunds. Here is my new pal Percy, he sits on my chair in the studio looking after it for me all day ! check out more of his kind at....
I LOVE DENIM

Bloomsbury Children's have just sent me a proof through of a Jacket I did for one of their books 'Troubadour'. I especially like the sparks in the sky and the blackness of the girls
silhouette, (if I say so myself !)

Since I've been doing this monthly horoscope gig for La republica mag 'Velvet' the month flies by so fast , it seems like only last week since I did the last one. Anyway here's the latest for Taurus. The irony is I'm not superstitious at all and don't actually believe in any of this horoscope stuff - but that's me all over, typical Scorpio !!!

I'm off to New York next week to launch Ryantown USA as a pop-up store in the states! Over the past months I have been busy getting ready for this exciting collaboration with Earnest Sewn. In the studio we have been producing new cushion covers, tiles and some rather lovely denim bears (produced with my wonderful Lorna). Come and see us if your are in the area!

The V and A (thats Victoria and Albert Museum)in london asked me to take part in their Mad Hatters late night event on 27th March, it's part of their Sephen Jones, Hats: an Anthology exhibition. I believe it will be part of a Parade !

As you can see I'm no hat maker and the major rule for me was to just keep piling it on until it looks done ! It's supposed to be a pill box mourning / funeral number hence the 'turning on the water works' veil !!!

PS This is modelled by super- assistant SUZIE !!!!!

For La Republica's Velvet magazine.

I have just received proofs from Puffin of a jacket design I did for them for last year, it's a story set in what I would call the dark ages, the inspiration for me for this was the title of William Manchester's book on the dark/early middle ages, 'A World lit only by fire'. I dont really make comment on anything besides my work on this blog thing but I think it would be unnatural to not mention Obama's inauguration yesterday. As the husband to a black woman and the father of mixed race children my heart yesterday was bursting with happiness and pride yesterday that such a good thing could happen in this world. I abhor patriotism of any sort and as a UK citizen the only Queen I recognise is Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, yet the significance of yesterday meant so much more than all of the flag waving and whether it was tears of happiness or sadness or whatever I found myself crying over and over again all through the day.

I have been doing a bit of work for Fortnum and Mason this year (I have just finished the illustrations for their lovely Easter Eggs !!!) These 3 illustrations were created for press ads for the Guardian and the Times letting people know about their special xmas events, one was for cocktail making classes, xmas cooking evenings and childrens storytelling evenings - I'm hope you can work out which one is which ! Sometimes the difficult thing with doing illustrations is you have to fit things into shapes you would never normally do - but then sometimes these challenging things can be the best fun and make you stretch your imagination a bit too.
Working for Fortnums has been hard in another way, one of my favourite artists Edward Bawden did lots of work for them throughout his long career and I know that when they approached me it was because they wanted to get back some of the flavour of the playfulness of his designs, as such I have been doing my utmost to try and NOT look at any of EB's work in case I am influenced by him too directly !!! Anyway this is what I done for them !!!
